Why we built RealHumans
In 2025, Americans lost over $21 billion to AI scams, according to the FBI's annual report. Synthesized voices, deepfaked videos, and AI-generated profiles have made it harder than ever to know who you're actually talking to online. The web is filling with bots, scammers, and fake identities — and the line between real and fake is harder to see every month.
RealHumans exists to give people a simple, free, and trustworthy way to prove they're real — and to require the same of anyone they interact with online.
How we're different
We don't store biometrics. No facial recognition, no iris scans, no fingerprints. Verification is performed person-to-person, by people who already know you, or by a trained Guardian on a short video call.
We don't keep copies of your ID. If a Guardian briefly sees your ID on a verification call, the call isn't recorded and no copy is kept.
We don't sell your data. RealHumans is a nonprofit. We aren't building a profile of you to sell to advertisers, governments, or anyone else.
We're free. Verification is free. Your Proof of Personhood link is free. Sharing your link is free. We run on donations from people who believe in the mission.
Who we serve
Anyone who wants to know whether the person on the other end of a DM, a dating profile, a marketplace listing, or a phone call is a real human being. Anyone who wants to prove the same about themselves.
