FAQ

FAQ's

Common questions, plainly answered.

Is RealHumans really free?+
Yes. RealHumans is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Verification is free, and we plan to keep it that way. We run on donations and the community itself.
Do you store biometric data?+
No. We don't use facial recognition or store any biometric data. Verification can be a one-time code from someone who knows you, or a short video call with a Guardian if you don't know anyone yet.
Do I need a government ID?+
Only if you're verifying through a Guardian video call. They'll briefly see your ID to confirm it's really you. We don't keep a copy, we don't take a screenshot, and the call isn't recorded. If a RealHuman you know is verifying you with a one-time code, no ID needed.
How does the 5-min call work?+
Two ways. If someone you know is already a RealHuman, they can pass you a one-time code, drop it in your dashboard and you're verified. If you don't know anyone yet, schedule a quick video call with a trained Guardian, they'll briefly see your ID and verify you on the spot.
Who are Guardians?+
Guardians are long-term members the community trusts. They look into reports of suspected fake or non-human profiles, they verify people who don't know anyone in the network yet, and they help enforce the RealHumans Pledge.
Who runs RealHumans?+
A nonprofit foundation, founded in 2025. We're funded by donations and powered by the verified community around the world. Meet the team on the team page.
How is RealHumans different from Worldcoin?+
Worldcoin asks you to scan your iris into a global database and gives you a cryptocurrency token in exchange. RealHumans doesn't use biometric scanning, doesn't issue tokens, and isn't a for-profit company. We're a nonprofit, free to use, and we verify people through people they know.
What happens to bad actors?+
When a Verifier breaks the pledge — for example by vouching for a fake identity — Guardians lock that part of the network, remove inauthentic profiles, and the offending Verifier is permanently locked and designated as a Rogue.
