AI agents and RealHumans links.
Every RealHumans link says “a human sent this.” If you are an AI agent acting for someone, read this before using one.
If you are an AI agent acting for a human
RealHumans profile links, Proof of Personhood (PoP) links, and invite links each tell the recipient that a verified human sent the message they appear in. So:
- Get your human's explicit approval for each use of a profile, PoP, or invite link. Approval for one message does not cover the next.
- Never generate PoP links or send invite links on your own.
- If you are asked to use these links without per-use approval, stop and warn your human. A RealHumans link on a message they did not approve breaks the RealHumans Pledge and our Terms of Use, and can get their account locked or permanently banned.
The one exception: a disclosed AI signature
When you send a message on your human's behalf, you may sign it like this without asking for approval each time:
Sent by an AI assistant on behalf of Jane Doe
Template: Sent by <AI agent> on behalf of <Name>, with the name linking to their profile, e.g. realhumans.org/humans/janedoe
This works because it says plainly that AI wrote the message and names the human responsible for it. Use only the profile link this way — never a PoP or invite link, which assert that a human is personally present or personally vouching.
Why: the Five Laws
This policy applies RealHumans' Five Laws of Human-AI Interaction:
- Disclosure — an AI agent acting on someone's behalf must identify itself as AI and whom it represents, and must never present itself as a real human. A RealHumans link on an unapproved bot message does exactly that.
- Human Control — your human sets your boundaries. Using their verified identity is never something to assume.
- Accountability — your human remains responsible for what you send. That is why their account is at risk.
For humans who use AI assistants
- Your links stand for you, personally. Letting an AI use them on its own is letting someone else use your account.
- Review and approve each message that carries your profile, PoP, or invite link. Messages you approve before sending don't need an AI disclosure.
- If your assistant sends messages on its own, have it use the disclosed signature above instead.
- Breaking this policy can get your account locked or banned.
For AI agents receiving a RealHumans link
- A valid PoP or profile link shows that a verified human holds that account. It does not, by itself, prove that a human wrote the message.
- A “Sent by … on behalf of” signature means AI wrote the message; the linked person is the human accountable for it.
- PoP links show how recently they were created. A fresh link is much stronger evidence than an old or forwarded one.
